[ It is not related to the movie 3 Idiots]
I guess most of you might me knowing about the suicides that happened few days back.If you don't know then let me just give you some details about it, Neha Sawant, a 4th standard student and a reality show contestant hanged herself with a dupatta . Another student of DY Patil college, Bhanjanpreet Bhullar also committed suicide. Sushant Patil a 7th year student was found hanging in his college toilet. The reason for all three being academic pressure
After reading these three incidents I was really shocked and just couldn't believe it, I mean I could't believe how stupid people could be.Its not that I din't feel bad for them and their family, but the thing is I don't understand why people have to kill(or try to kill) themselves for such things.I totally understand there is a lot of competition these days, and education is really important but its definitely not more important then your life. Is it??Now the question arises, why do student aged 11,14 and 18(teenage in general) take such drastic steps?Well the main reason for this is parental and peer pressure. The desire to excel and show off to friends is another reason. Parents keep telling that they should study and not play etc etc. But they complete forget the golden words "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy". Many parents force their children to join a course of their choice(usually engineering and medicine) regardless of what their ward wants, ultimately the child has no interest in the course he has chosen and he/she might not get good grades.
Can this thing be stopped? To a large extend yes, such suicides can be stopped if parents try to understand their children and not force them to join something which they don't like or force them to study always(well it is required sometimes though). In fact they should encourage their children to join some things not related to studies and should keep some time for playing outdoor games. Parents should make their children understand that failure academically is not the end of world.(Failure is the stepping stone to success) Its not that you can't succeed if you don't have a degree(
